Some Country
By John Allen Latta © 2010
Friday night after supper I head out to the barn
Sip a little Jim Beam and turn the radio on
I know my baby’s coming and it won’t be long
Until she busts through them doors and sings
Give me some country
A big ol' roll in the hay
Some country, played the old fashioned way
Some country, that makes the teardrops fall
Honey, just give me some country
Every Saturday morning when the chores are done
We hold hands on the porch, watch the rising sun
Pretty soon the kid’s will be up and on the run
And we’ll all truck it into town with the radio on
Blaring some country, got the windows down
Some country taking the long way around
Some country so wild and free
Honey, just give us some country
Nothing like some music with a fiddle sawing
Honky-Tonks full of hillbilly’s all yee-hawing
Beater pick-up trucks with the Hank really cranked
A sad steel guitar beats money in the bank
Instrumentals (Chorus Based)
On Sunday morning the whole gang goes to church
Five generations sitting like birds on a perch
Most all of the hymns we know chorus and verse
But I’ll be danged if they all don’t sound just like...
Some country, yeah straight from the heart
Some country, ‘bout how to make a new start
Some country, about taking a stand
And giving a stranger a helping hand
Some country, that’s all you need
Some country, so wild and free
Some country, about the good old days
Some country, made in the U.S.A..
Some country, honey, just give me some country
Some country (guitar riffs)
Some country (fiddle saws)
Some country (mandolin)
Some country (banjo)
Honey, just give me some country
